We celebrated World Friendship Day on July 30 by helping young artists make new friends. We want to help them connect to other teenage artists, professionals, instructors, collectors, and curators.

Art portfolios are an important part of the spikeview platform. We want to help emerging artists own their own narrative and maximize their potential.

We’re putting out this call for artists for two big reasons. First, entrepreneurs pitch themselves and their products to investors. That’s how they learn to improve their product and get funding. We’re giving artists a chance to pitch themselves and their work to galleries! Second, we want to acknowledge young artists with some great prizes as motivation to keep going!

How to submit

Follow the steps below to submit your photography, painting, digital art, or other piece of visual art.

Step 1

Create a free spikeview arts portfolio, including personal statement and bio.

Step 2

Upload at least 3 images of your work to your spikeview portfolio.

Step 3

Label 1 image as your submission to be voted on.

Step 4

Upload a video (30-45 seconds) to your spikeview portfolio about why you should be featured in an art gallery

Step 5

Email your spikeview link to team@spikeview.com with the subject “Art Contest Entry.”

Prizes

There’s no fee to submit your work, but there we will be giving out some great prizes in 3 categories: Artists’ Choice, People’s Choice, Mentors’ Choice.

Artist’s Choice

Young artists will vote for submissions by 3 other artists. Winners in this category will be decided by peers.

People’s Choice

The more artists share this special promotion, the more chances they’ll have to win cash and other great prizes! This category is open to the general public.

Mentor’s Choice

Several mentors have generously offered to contribute to this promotion. Winners in this category will be decided by art professionals.

How Young Artists Can Thrive In The New Digital Economy

The pandemic has been devastating for the arts economy. A major factor is that artists have learned to make their money from physical things that couldn’t be digitized. The new digital economy opens new doors for prosperity in creative fields.

Rosanne Cash, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter had this to say about our speaker: “Deresiewicz is one of the great advocates for artists in the new digital economy, and his book is the most refreshing wake-up call for young artists that I have ever read.”

Bill Deresiewicz is an award-winning essayist and critic. He’s a frequent speaker at high schools and colleges. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Harper’s, The American Scholar, and many other publications. He taught English at Yale and Columbia before becoming a full-time writer in 2008. Arts Portfolio: Building An Online Home So Your Work Is Seen And Sold

You can get a jump on longtime artists who live on rented land. “Owning” cyber real estate means having an online home that you control. Art Morehead is a professional artist and art marketer. He will give a brief presentation followed by Q&A.

Art Morehead first experienced a paint brush at 6 years old. Decades later, he’s still a curious child when it comes to artistic forms. In recent years, Art discovered a passion for teaching. Rules / Eligibility

Visual artists under the age of 20 are eligible to participate and invited to submit artwork.
Submissions must be made using a spikeview portfolio. Artists are trusted to submit their original work. Artists may submit work that has been submitted for other contests.
Submissions may relate to the theme of Friendship Day, but that is not required. Any topic or theme is acceptable.
There is no fee to submit and there is no fee to create a spikeview portfolio.
Each participant will choose a single image to be voted on, and label the image in this format: firstname_vote. Artists may not create multiple accounts to submit extra entries.
Artist portfolios (statement, bio, other images, and video) will be part of the evaluation process for the Mentors’ Choice award.
Submissions will be accepted from July 25, 2021, 12pm ET through August 27, 2021, 12pm ET.
Voting will take place from August 28, 2021, 12pm ET through August 30, 2021, 12pm ET. During this 3-day period, each artist submitting work must vote for 3 other artists. Artists will receive notifications via the spikeview platform, including a reminder to vote.
Artists are welcome to share their spikeview portfolio with anyone they choose. Artists control their own data on spikeview and decide for themselves which content can be viewed by others.
Artists’ Choice: spikeview will announce winners based on votes by artists who submit work. Votes will be collected through the spikeview platform.
People’s Choice: spikeview will announce winners based on votes collected by the general public. Votes will be collected through a form shared publicly on July 26, 2021 to August 28, 2021.
Mentors’ Choice: spikeview will announce winners based on votes by mentors participating in the event.
Consultations will be scheduled by mentors following the award announcements. Artists and mentors will be introduced and connected by spikeview, but spikeview will not be part of the consultations.
IGTV and blog interviews will be facilitated by spikeview, and may involve a variety of external media partners.
By submitting work, artists agree to their first names and submitted work being featured and spotlighted for marketing purposes. Artists may choose to publicly share their social media accounts and other personal information.
